What Hoot keeps, where your messages go, and who can reach your child's device. In plain words.

What the device and app keep

To work, Hoot keeps a few things about your family.

  • The family members a parent adds, and the name each one goes by.
  • Voice messages, and the transcripts that write out what was said.
  • Battery level and check-in status, so you can see a device is on and charged.
  • Where the device is, but only when a parent asks for its location.

It is there for your family. There are no ads in Hoot.

How messages travel

Messages travel over an encrypted link between your child's device, our service and the phones in your family.

To write out what was said, our service sends each voice recording to a speech-to-text service run by another company.

Who can reach your child's device

Only the family members a parent adds can reach the device. A parent decides who is in, and can change that in the app at any time.

Removing a device

If a device is lost, a parent can remove a device from the family in the app. A removed device can no longer send or receive messages.

The waitlist

If you join the waitlist, we keep:

  • Your email.
  • The first three characters of your postal code.
  • Your first name, if you give it.
  • When you joined, and that you said yes to hearing from us.

We use your email only to tell you when it's your turn to try Hoot. The postal code helps us plan where to send the first devices.

The list is kept in a private Google Sheet, so Google stores it for us. Only we can see it, and we never share or sell it.

To be taken off, email hello@sayhoot.com and we will delete your details.

Apart from the waitlist, this website collects nothing. It has no analytics and no tracking cookies.
